Professor Elm provides the Poké Gear, a suite of tools including a map, radio, and cell phone to assist in exploration. Players manage a real-time clock to trigger day and night cycles, which dictates which of the 100 new Pokémon appear in the world. Combat involves turn-based strategy to defeat eight Gyms and the Pokémon League.
